A visit to Bordeaux: what to see and do?

A city of history, art, culture, gastronomy and wine, Bordeaux will never cease to surprise you and it is possible that one weekend is not enough to experience all that Bordeaux has to offer.

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bordeaux boasts authentic monuments, historic streets, art and cultural museums. There are plenty of things to do in Bordeaux to discover the charm of "La Belle Endormie".

We have selected the places not to be missed during your visit to Bordeaux.

Historic Bordeaux, a Unesco World Heritage Site

The beauty and splendour of Bordeaux are proof of its classification as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Indeed, the "Sleeping Beauty" has no less than 350 listed buildings and monuments, making it the largest and most complex listed urban area.

Among them, the Grand Théâtre, the famous Place de la Bourse, the Porte Cailhau, the Grosse Cloche, the Saint-André cathedral and the Saint-Pierre district. You will not have finished making discoveries, each one richer than the next.

The historic district of Bordeaux, Saint-Pierre

Amongst the many historic districts, don't miss the Saint-Pierre district, hidden just behind the Place de la Bourse. This area is full of cafés and restaurants, so take the time to stroll through its beautiful streets or stop for a drink on a terrace and enjoy the life of the south-west.

The largest water mirror in the world

The Bordeaux water mirror is the largest in the world and has become a must-see in Bordeaux. Located on the left bank of the quays, admire the splendour of the Place de la Bourse from the mirror, as it is reflected there and offers a sumptuous spectacle. In summer, cool off by walking on it, fun guaranteed for young and old!

The quays of Bordeaux, left bank and quai des marques

Who has never heard of the quays of Bordeaux? Also classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the quays of Bordeaux are a wonderful reflection of the beauty of this city. You can see majestic facades dating back to the 18th century all along, to the delight of those who stroll, play sports or shop.

The city of wine

Bordeaux is of course the undisputed city of wine! And for good reason, the first museum to honour this prestigious beverage so appreciated by the French opened its doors in 2016. And today, it is impossible to miss a visit to La Cité du Vin during a stay in Bordeaux. Its architecture will certainly not leave you indifferent, as you can see this majestic building, built to pay tribute to wine, from afar.
